Heritage
Railway & Museum Sites

The
RPSI, operating out of Whitehead in Northern Ireland, and
Mullingar and Dublin in the Republic, runs various steam
railtours over the NIR and Irish Rail network.

The Irish Traction Group has the objective of preserving
at least one example of each class of diesel locomotive
to have operated on the Irish railway system. The ultimate
aim of the Group is to restore its collection of locomotives
to full mainline standard and to operate them on special
railtours and excursions throughout Ireland.

The Ulster
Folk and Transport Museum is one of Ireland's foremost visitor
attractions illustrating the way of life and traditions
of the people of Northern Ireland.
The award winning galleries of the Transport Museum display
Ireland's most comprehensive transport collections from
horse drawn carts to Irish built motor cars, from steam
locomotives to the history of ship and aircraft building.

the British Isles. This

The IRRS
preserves as many historical records about the railways
in Ireland, as well as providing up-to-date developments
of Ireland's two rail operators.

HEADHUNTERS
BARBER SHOP AND RAILWAY MUSEUM
A trip
to Headhunters Barber Shop & Railway Museum is like
taking a remarkable journey into the past bringing the golden
age of the railway vividly to life. Visitors start their
journey of discovery at the reconstructed Railway Booking
Office where the ticket collector invites you to step on
board and enjoy the evocative nostalgia, social heritage
and amazing artefacts associated with the railways which
operated throughout Fermanagh and the Border Counties until
their closure in 1957.

Station, a former GNR(I) station, was restored in 2001 and
now comprises a Railway Visitor Centre, eight self-catering
apartments and conference facilitites,

The Vintage
Carriages Trust (VCT) is a volunteer body, based on the
Keighley & Worth Valley Railway in Yorkshire, England.
It was formed in the late 1960s by a group of volunteers
whose interest was in wooden bodied carriages. They have
conducted a British-Isles wide survey of all preserved railway
carriages.

The
centre tells the fascinating story of Ireland's Patron Saint.
Through Patrick's own words a light is shone on the arrival
of Christianity in Ireland and its development through his
mission.

This
former gaol and military barracks where famous United Irishman
Thomas Russel (The Man from God Knows Where) was hanged
in 1803, now houses the St Patrick Heritage Centre, telling
the story of Ireland's Patron Saint and the area's strong
links to the founding of Christianity in Ireland. The Museum
complex also contains a restored Governor's Residence where
visitors can see fascinating displays about life in earlier
times, as well as a reconstruction of 18th century cells
where prisoners were held before transportation to Australia.
